Email as a Service Working Group
The Email as a Service (EaaS) Working Group was established in June of 2010 to examine and compile requirements for a government-wide offering of cloud email services. The Working Group is chaired by Mr. William Corrington, Chief Technology Officer for the Department of the Interior (DOI).
The aforementioned Software as a Service (SaaS) Email services will be available via a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) through Apps.gov, the federal government's primary source for cloud services. The EaaS Working Group is composed of senior IT experts from over 15 federal Departments and Agencies.
Mission Statement: This group will be the source of SaaS eMail information, solutions, and processes that foster adoption of SaaS eMail within the Federal Government. This group will coordinate across government and industry in support of the Federal Cloud Computing Initiative (FCCI).
Goals:
- Compile, approve, and release a government-wide solicitation for cloud email services
- Collaborate to accelerate adoption of SaaS Email for Federal agencies and eliminate potential duplicate work within Federal agencies.
- Develop business case templates for agencies who are considering transitioning to SaaS Email.
- Identify and specify solutions for security issues and coordinate with the FCCI Security Working Group and FedRAMP.
- Create security/privacy requirements and guidance to address standards, system utilization and legal issues that may be created by using SaaS Email.
- Identify records management requirements that relate to SaaS Email.
